In November 2016, KIDSgala threw a celebration of life party for Mychaela Lovelace at Dave & Buster’s in Livonia, Michigan. Mychaela’s celebration incorporated her passion for ballet with a ballerina-themed party. The event included dinner, a sweet table, a fun guessing game and uniquely designed shirts for Mychaela and her guests. Invited guests also enjoyed a challenging scavenger hunt and unlimited video game play.
At the age of five years old, Mychaela was diagnosed in April 2008 with Aplastic Anemia, a rare disease in which the bone marrow and the hematopoietic stem cells that reside there are damaged. This causes a deficiency in all three blood cell types: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Mychaela’s treatment required a bone marrow transplant which she received in March 2009. The transplant was considered successful despite developing GVHD (graft vs. host disease). This is a complication resulting from the transplanted immune cells attacking the host’s body cells.
